When you are ready to begin measuring your drawings in the dynamic takeoff tool, you can choose three different types of measurements, areas, lines, and counts. Areas are best for large sections measured in square feet, like flooring. Lines are best for items measured in linear feet like drywall. Counts are best for grouping individual items, like doors or light fixtures.

Here is how you take a measurement in 1build:

  1. Set the scale for your drawings with a manual or standard calibration.

  2. To measure a line, select the line tool at the top of the screen and then click two or more points to create the line you want to measure. Hold shift while clicking to keep your lines at right angles. Click Done at the top of the screen, or hit Enter, when you are finished with a measurement.

  3. To measure an area, select the area tool at the top of the screen and then click three or more points to create a closed shape. Click Done at the top of the screen, or hit Enter, when you are finished with a measurement.

  4. To count items, select the count tool at the top of the screen and then click one or more points to create a group of items. Click Done at the top of the screen, or hit Enter, when you are finished with a measurement.

  5. Change the color or pattern of your measurement in your takeoff by selecting the line, area, or count then clicking on the color or texture palette at the top right of the screen. For counts, you can also change the shape of the count, as well as the size.
